Our Park is Beautiful – and Historic
A green space jewel on the Hamden/ New Haven border, Edgerton Park has been a part of the New Haven Parks system since 1965. Click the link to learn about the history of the Park. And visit a Flickr site to see photos of the mansion in the Park. Benefactor Frederick Brewster's will required this to be razed before the park could be opened to the public. The Carriage House, pictured below, still exists, and is the center of our activities. How We Evolved
In 1972, the Edgerton Park Conservancy was formed to encourage and give support to local gardeners and park users. The Conservancy works collaboratively with the city and other groups to ensure a vibrant park. Over the years, the Park's mission has expanded to include: • Encouraging and promoting horticultural programs and education and to organize, coordinate and support all efforts and activities concerned with the preservation, restoration and enhancement of Edgerton Park. • Organizing, coordinating and supporting supporting environmental awareness • Providing education programs for elementary school children to enhance connections with nature and the arts. SPECIAL FEATURES: Garden Plot Rental Program lets members of the Edgerton Park Conservancy with a range of gardening experience enjoy raising vegetables and flowers in the Edgerton Community Gardens. MORE Greenhouse Rental Program This option gives area residents winter gardening opportunities from October to June. DETAILS |
